From the Principal

Welcome to Box Hill Senior Secondary College

We, as a college community truly value and celebrate diversity. Students are supported in their intellectual, emotional, social and physical development by a highly professional group of teachers and student services staff. The guiding philosophy at the College is that happy, healthy, resilient students learn best and achieve their personal best when they feel supported and valued as individuals.

The College offers a rich and broad curriculum that is educationally relevant to a diverse range of young people. Students are able to choose from a diverse range of VCE programs and studies that provide pathways to employment, training and tertiary education. Our College is recognised as a leading provider of vocational education within the VCE and is a Registered Training Organization (RTO) for many VET programs.

Also, Box Hill Senior Secondary College has been formally recognised by the Department of Education and Training as a ‘Specialist Sports Science School’. This makes the College one of only two specialist sports schools in the Victorian Education system. Many students enrol at Box Hill Senior because of this unique sport development program which features Tennis, Basketball, Netball and Australian Rules football plus an Athlete Development program. Students in this program combine their sports training and development in conjunction with their academic program. This specialist sporting program acknowledges that students must also plan for a career beyond their sporting aspirations.

Established in 1943 as the Box Hill Technical School for boys, the College became coeducational in 1985 when it amalgamated with the Whitehorse Girls Technical School. It formed the basis for the establishment in 1984 of the Box Hill Institute of TAFE. In 1993 the College became a Senior College as part of a reorganisation of schools across the State.

Our convenient location draws students from more than 100 different postcodes with many students travelling more than 15kms per day to school.

No bells creates a calmer environment but also brings greater responsibility on the students to support themselves in their learning and preparing them for life after their school years. This is supported by the ‘Ready to Learn’ philosophy adopted by the college where Organisation + Respect + Responsibility = Ready to Learn

As Principal, I would like to thank you for taking the time to view our website. I encourage interested parents and students to come on the tour of the College (Book a Tour) to see us in action and find out what makes Box Hill Senior such a unique educational environment.
