Theatre Studies 1 - 4
VCE Theatre Studies involves the collaborative approach to producing live theatre experiences in applying Acting and other Stagecraft areas. Live theatre involves Stagecraft areas such as Costume/Hair/Make-Up Design and Application, Set/Props Design and Construction, Music and Dance, Lighting and Sound Design and Operation, Publicity/Marketing, a variety of Roles of Direction and Acting Performance. Students view a range of live performances to evaluate and analyse the directorial choices of professional directors and actors.
In VCE Theatre Studies Units 1 & 2 students study the Theatrical Styles of the Pre-Modern & Modern era. Students produce a Theatre History File and use practical performance techniques to explore these styles.
In VCE Theatre Studies Units 3 & 4 students coordinate the areas of stagecraft in a Theatre production, and have the opportunity to present to a live audience. Students are also offered opportunities to interpret a monologue from a complete playscript, and are required to present this monologue (solo) in the form of a performance involving costume/make-up, set/props of their choice.
Although it is not mandatory, it is recommended students electing VCE Theatre Studies Units 3 & 4 have experience in Theatre Production, or have completed VCE Theatre Studies Units 1 & 2.
As it is a requirement for VCE Theatre Studies students to attend Live Performance productions, a fee of $75 is applicable. Attendance at these productions is compulsory.
There are no other additional charges beyond the general materials fee.
