AHC20410 Certificate II in Horticulture (Landscape)

Certificate II in Horticulture develops practical skills and knowledge enabling students to undertake a broad range of tasks in gardening, nursery work and landscaping as well as foundation skills and knowledge required by many sectors in the horticultural industry.

Whilst some training is conducted in the classroom students develop skills and knowledge through practical projects and landscape work in a variety of settings. Major topics covered include; recognize plants, determining basic properties of soils, plant trees and shrubs, prune shrubs and small trees, renovate grassed areas, lay paving, install aggregate paths, construct low-profile timber or modular retaining walls, operate machinery and equipment and assist the landscape construction. 

PLEASE NOTE:  Landscape Horticulture classes commence at 8 am.

Pre- requisites

VET Horticulture (Landscape) is part of a packaged program and must be taken in conjunction with VCE Product Design (Wood), VCE Mathematics, VCE Visual Communication & Design (Technical Drawing) and VET Building.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE VCE

Up to five units of credit towards their VCE: three units at Units 1 & 2, and a Units 3 & 4 sequence.

ATAR CONTRIBUTION

Students who receive a Units 3 & 4 sequence will be eligible for a 10% increment towards their ATAR (10% of the average of the primary four scaled studies).

PATHWAYS ……where may this program lead?

On successful completion students will be eligible for the award of AHC20410 Certificate 11 in Horticulture.

Work Placement

The college strongly recommends a minimum of ten days work placement for all programs. Work placement can be spread over the duration of the training program.
