Assessment and Reporting

At Box Hill Senior Secondary College, education is delivered by our dedicated and professional teaching staff. They support students to achieve academically, and help them grow more confident and independent. To support students and their learning, the College has in place regular progress reports, as well as end of semester reports.

Languages other than English

At Box Hill Senior Secondary College, international students may undertake VCE studies in their first language on Saturday mornings from 9:00am until 12:15pm during term time at a campus of the Victorian School of Languages (VSL), a school of the Victorian Government. Students may choose to study Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 1 and 2 as a year 10 or 11 student, and Units 3 and 4 as a year 11 or 12 student.

In 2018, BHSSC international students are also studying VCE Units 3 and 4 at the Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School (VCAA code: 14309), and the Iranian Cultural School (VCAA code: 1864).

 

Vocational Education and Training

Box Hill Senior Secondary College offers studies in Vocational Education and Training (VET), as well as the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). In 2018, an international student is completing the 22261VIC Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (Pre-vocational) through a third party arrangement with the Box Hill Institute (RTO No. 4687).

 

Local area

Box Hill Senior Secondary College is located in the green and leafy suburb of Mont Albert North, with quiet streets, near the top of the hill ridge looking out to the east and south east to Box Hill and Box Hill North. Doncaster, East Doncaster and Templestowe are to the north and north east. Mont Albert and Balwyn are to the west, and Canterbury and Surrey Hills are to the south. The College is well served by public transport and students travel from homestays in these suburbs, as well as those located in Mitcham, Nunawading, Burwood and Camberwell.

The College is a 12 minute walk from the Box Hill Central Shopping Centre, and tram and train interchanges. Box Hill Central Shopping Centre is a very large regional shopping centre complex with two hubs – Box Hill Central above the railway station, and Centro Plaza across the Market and Main Street pedestrian malls. There are over 190 retailers/shops, cafés/eateries, and service providers, as well as cinemas, and a major bus interchange and railway station. Westfield Doncaster, a large retail centre with more than four hundred stores, including department stores, shops, banks, cafés / restaurants, supermarkets, and cinemas. is a 15 minute short distance by bus.

The College and homes of many of its homestay providers are located within the City of Whitehorse, which has beautiful and extensive facilities for walking and cycling, and many recreation reserves, sport fields, and parks and gardens. International students may choose to spend some of their home study time in one of the four public library branches - Blackburn, Box Hill, Nunawading and Vermont South. There are Aqualink swimming pool complexes at Nunawading and Box Hill, and the City of Whitehorse celebrates festivals and events cross the year.
