Senior Program

The senior basketball program is available to all male and female basketball players in year 11 and 12 who want to further develop their individual game.

The selection process involves:

  • Attend the Open Day or a School Tour
  • Complete the Enrolment Application Form
  • Successfully pass an Enrolment Interview

Weekly Program

Students selected in the program will complete the following sessions on a weekly basis:

  • 1 x 90 minute squad session
  • 1 x 60 minute strength and conditioning session
  • 2 x 60 minute skills sessions

Squad sessions focus on developing a player’s understanding of team offensive and defensive concepts.

Strength and conditioning sessions focus on developing a player’s fitness, strength, power, speed and agility, specifically for the sport of basketball.

Skills sessions focus on developing the individual skills a player needs to improve their performance such as ball handling, shooting technique and consistency, finishing at the basket and one-on-one moves.

Tournaments

Depending on which team students are selected in, they will have the opportunity to participate in the following tournaments: Victorian College Championships (VCC), School Sport Victoria (SSV) Premier League and McDonald’s Champion School of Victoria.

If a team wins the McDonald’s Champion School of Victoria, they will be eligible to represent the school at the Australian Schools Championships.

All year 11 and 12 players also have the opportunity to try-out for the USA Tour teams every second year.

Note – the aim of the program is to improve the player’s individual performance for their team outside of school. Whilst tournaments are a good opportunity for further development, they are not the sole focus of the program. Also, please be aware that not every team will participate in every tournament.

Attendance and GPA

All sessions are marked on the Rollcall Attendance System and students must maintain a GPA (Grade Point Average) above 2.0, otherwise a set of graduated consequences will apply.
