USA Basketball Tours

The BHSSC Basketball Program has completed a tour to the USA every two years since 2004.  Interest and participation in the tours has grown steadily so that and 4 basketball teams (approximately 40 students) are usually selected to compete against USA high school basketball teams. Selection priority is given to  students in years 11 and 12.
The tour provides an amazing opportunity to combine basketball, travel and once-in-a-lifetime experiences and it takes place in November/December after all exams have been completed. For  students interested in attaining an athletic scholarship to a USA College it is an opportunity to perform before College scouts who attend some of the games.

 

  

India Trip

Box Hill Senior Secondary College has entered into an educational partnership with the Neerja Modi School in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. Our students spend time with students of Neerja Modi as well as working with the underprivileged girls of the Nischay school.

Nischay is a separate campus of Neerja Modi. The girls who attend Nischay are from the slums of Jaipur and normally these girls would be denied the opportunity for any form of education. However the main campus sponsors these girls and allows them to experience school and gain a limited education. The Box Hill Senior students will work directly with the Nischay students and help them with their literacy and numeracy development. Working at the Nischay school will be confronting, but at the same time will be an uplifting experience.

As part of this tour our students will have the chance to visit many places of cultural and historical significance including the elephant safari at the Amber Fort and the Taj Mahal.

   

 

World Challenge

Over the past ten years, BHSSC, alongside World Challenge Australia, has been host of five one month-long expeditions to remote areas of South East Asia, including Borneo, Java, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, and including over fifty BHSSC students. The BHSSC World Challenge Program allows students take on roles of leadership of their team and commit to fitness activities, fundraising and team building events, in the build up to departure. Students are responsible for organising their own in-country itinerary, planning their travel and accommodation, and making day-to-day decisions while on expedition, such as meal planning and division of cleaning duties. Students travel through remote villages, with a focus on assisting with rural farming and building construction, and mindful of the impacts of tourism, they participate in restorative environmental activities, like mangrove plantations and reforestation. Students manage their budget for the duration of the expedition, and take turns as leaders along the way.
